FLANO CHAPTER OFFICIAL TODAY
Friends of Lake Norman State Park got its stamp of approval on Saturday at the Friends of State Parks quarterly meeting at Crowders Mountain State Park. The FSP organization, under which auspices FLANO will operate, approved the organization's application and bylaws to officially create the FLANO group, which can now officially extend memberships to the community, work on park projects, and solicit donations and write grants to fund park projects. State FSP President Jim Richardson met with interested community members in February and March to determine interest in starting the group, help them organize and elect officers, and guide them through the application and bylaw process. The Friends of State Parks uses its private sector, nonprofit abilities to add value to NC's park system in areas where government action may be restricted by advocating to improve the state parks system, stimulating and unifying local Friends groups, raising money through grants and donations to enhance government funding for state parks, and providing a means to request and administer legacy gifts or other investment opportunities. |
